Hobden House Federal Halfway House
"The Hobden House and JHS deserve a 5 star rating for the work they do, the people they employ and basically the Mission statement that is the heart of it all."
Miller Block Apartments
"Consultation and transparency resulted in the success of the John Howard
Society who bought, renovated and operates a facility in the 700 Block of
Kingsway, three blocks from my house. This passed the "smell test" after
about 30 minutes of explanation and discussion when the proposal was first
brought forward. The difference here was one of openness,
sincerity and a desire to build a positive relationship with the surrounding
neighbourhood. Perhaps we need more examples such as the John Howard Society or that of
MOBY (My Own Back Yard) and engage in real grassrooots social activism seeking to build communities and fewer NIMBYs who
rely on exclusion and obstructionism to further their goals.
Are we part of the problem, part of the solution, or a bit of both? Are we
our brothers' keepers?"

Vancouver Apartments Supported Living
"The staff have a good relationship with us so we work as a team to get things done."
"Staff is always willing to listen and understand like a sister."
Community Services
"I would like to thank the John Howard Society for visiting North Fraser Pre-trial Centre allowing inmates the opportunity to vent frustration, happiness, prepare for the future and share in the joy when another hurdle was successfully crossed. [Community Services staff] have all had a positive impact on my attitude and the way I govern my actions. When you have people of quality and integrity behind you the hard decisions are much easier to make. I have been in jail before and for the first time will leave with a job and a fresh start. I could not be more grateful. Thank you for all your Society’s efforts on my behalf."
"...thanks for all of your help and countless hours you've put in to help me out. I would have been lost in a virtual sea of things to do, with no way to do them, so you've really come to my rescue in that sense!"
Choices and Consequences
"Having a former inmate talking about prison is great to deter young people from committing crimes."
"I have never spoken to someone who spent time in a federal prison and I guess I automatically made assumptions about the people there and what it's like. The speaker helped me realize that many of my assumptions were wrong."
